(That’s actually DFW above; the link shows Segel as him.) Had no idea they were making a movie adaptation of David Lipsky’s book Although of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself: A Road Trip With David Foster Wallace. The price I pay for not having a TV. I am out of the loop.
I read this book and came away feeling like DFW held back a lot of himself. Mannerisms, gestures, those shone through, but conversationally, he was not at his best. That’s often the case with great writers. Of course, he was nearing the end of a mind-numbing promotional tour for Infinite Jest. And being DFW, he still managed to unleash some breathtaking comments that stunned. I’d have traded places with Lipsky (who I didn’t care for) in a heartbeat.
