“If someone asked you to create public health policy for which the goal was to mislead the maximum number of people in ways that would compromise their health while profiting the pharmaceutical, medical, and junk food industries, you couldn’t do much better than what’s currently in place.” (p. 248)

Most of us who know anything about natural health are well aware that doctors receive very little nutritional training in their studies to become a doctor. Many turn to dieticians for health advice, thinking their education is more reliable. But Dr. Campbell also warns that the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND), the board that certifies registered dieticians in the U.S., receives a large amount of its operating capital from corporations like Coca Cola, Hershey, the National Dairy Council, Abbott Labs, CoroWise (a supplement making arm of Cargill), General Mills, Kelloggs, Mars, PepsiCo, and others who we would think might have a conflict of interest with the highest health standards for the public. You may also be interested to know that the meat-industry giant, ConAgra, is approved by the AND to teach dietician courses, along with Coke, Pepsi, Nestle and Kraft, at their respective “food institutes” and institutes for health and nutrition.
