Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.
August 5, 1884: The cornerstone of the Statue of Liberty was laid on Bedloe’s Island.
Legislators and citizens argue about our borders (where plenty of blood’s shed) and illegal immigrants ad nauseum. Do these words mean nothing? I don’t see an amount given as to how many tired, poor, huddled masses are allowed into this great country. Interesting, too, how the same profitable corporations that funnel money into Republicans’ coffers to keep out the immigrants bring illegal immigrants into the US to work under deplorable conditions at soul-killing jobs that Americans wouldn’t accept if their lives depended on it. Funny, because for those people brought in illegally by corporations, they take these jobs for just that reason.
